What is Smile Aesthetics?

Smile aesthetics is a versatile procedure performed to give patients a natural-looking, healthy smile with one or more aesthetic dentistry procedures such as lip shaping, tooth whitening, restoration of teeth with crowns, crowns and bridges, periodontal treatment. and adjusting the thread length.

Using computer technology, the dentist considers the general facial appearance and structure of the teeth, lips and gums to digitally create the ideal smile for the patient before treatment begins.

Treatment with smile aesthetics may include:

Teeth whitening

Dental restorations to repair teeth and tooth structure

Dental veneers to reshape and realign teeth

Dental implants, bridges or dentures to replace missing teeth and restore facial volume and jaw structure

Treatment of gum problems or correction of a gum smile

Orthodontic correction of crooked or overlapping teeth

Components of Smile Aesthetics

In addition to correcting the color and structure of teeth, there are a number of other factors that a cosmetic dentist will consider as part of a smile aesthetic treatment plan:

Tooth length: Long teeth give the face a more youthful appearance and can provide a slimming effect for the entire face. The wear and tear associated with aging often causes teeth to shorten, and a gum smile can also cause teeth to appear shorter. There are also differences in the length of the two anterior central teeth between males and females. Treatments for shorter teeth include shaping and lengthening the two middle front teeth with porcelain veneers or composite bonding, or replacing the gum line.

Smile line: The imaginary line that follows the edges of the upper teeth from side to side and should ideally match the curve of the lower lip when smiling. This can be a reference point to help determine how long the teeth should be.

Tooth ratios: Generally, an aesthetically pleasing smile is considered a smile with two central teeth predominant and a width-to-length ratio of 4:5. This ratio can act as a guide for the length and width of the teeth to create a balanced smile line.
