What is Stomach Botox?

The application of Botox on the stomach is a weight loss method based on the endoscopic method of injecting botulinum toxin into certain parts of the stomach. In this method, the contraction of the stomach muscles is limited and the gastric emptying time is delayed and the patient loses his appetite. 

Who is it suitable for?

Stomach botox can be applied to anyone who wants to lose weight. The application of botox to the stomach is not surgery. It must be said that gastric botox will not be very useful in patients with a body mass index greater than 40 who can be successful with surgery. Gastric botox is an ideal method for patients who are overweight but not obese enough to undergo surgery and who wish to lose weight. In patients suffering from stomach ulcers or gastritis, after the appropriate treatment of these diseases, gastric botox can be applied.    

Stomach Botox Side Effects

Botox is widely used primarily to reduce wrinkles on the skin and no dangerous side effects have been reported. The application of gastric botox has no significant side effects reported in the literature. The procedure is not suitable for people with muscle diseases and allergic to botox.  

Does Stomach Botox Guarantee Weight Loss ? 

No method can guarantee weight loss. Gastric botox should not be seen as a miraculous treatment. Although it is known that stomach botox has an appetite reducing effect and aids in eating, it should be noted that there is a possibility of failure in patients fed a high carbohydrate content after the application of botox.  

How long does the stomach Botox process take?

Gastric botox is an endoscopic procedure performed through the mouth. The process takes an average of 20 minutes. During the procedure, patients are put to sleep accompanied by an anesthesiologist. Hospitalization is not necessary. 1 to 2 hours of observation is usually sufficient after the procedure. The effect of gastric botox disappears after 4 to 6 months. Therefore, there is no possibility of permanent damage.      

Can I get bloating with Botox?

The stomach botox process has no effect on nerve cells and stool. If you suffer from intestinal sluggishness, it will not have a stimulating effect. In the diet that will be specially prepared for you after gastric botox (if you suffer from intestinal sluggishness, report it to your dietician), intestinal sluggishness can also be improved by adding foods for the functioning of the intestines to the diet.  

Is Botox distributed in the body ? 

Systemic spread has not been demonstrated after the gastric botox procedure, and it has been observed to completely block nerve conduction locally and therefore delay hunger.

Can it be applied to pregnant and breastfeeding women?

Adequate studies have not been conducted on its use in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

What is the expectation of applying Botox to the stomach ? 

Patients are expected to lose 10-15% of their total weight in 3-6 months. The amount of weight lost; It can vary from person to person depending on age, metabolic rate and frequency of exercise.
